石陨石：石陨石上硅酸盐矿物如橄榄石、辉石和少量斜长石组成，也含有少量金属铁微粒，有时可达20以上。石陨石根据起内部是否含有球粒结构又可分为两类：球粒陨石、不含球粒陨石。 铁陨石：铁陨石中含有90%的铁，8%的镍。它的外表裹着一层黑色或褐色的1毫米厚的氧化层，叫熔壳。铁陨石的切面与纯铁一样，很亮。
小行星来源的无球粒陨石有：
(1) 原始无球粒陨石，它们具有明显的熔融结晶特征，但无显著的金属-硅酸盐分异，全岩化学组成基本保持球粒陨石的特征。属于该类的化学群有
(2) 顽辉石无球粒陨石, 该类陨石与其相应的 eh 和 el 群球粒陨石具 有相同的氧同位素组成，相似的矿物组合和矿物化学组成，但它们来自不同的母体；
(3)橄辉无球粒陨石，由碳质球粒陨石撞击熔融形成；
(4) 普通辉石无球粒陨石，主要由富 ti 普通辉石组成；
(5)部分熔融残留的分异型陨石；
(6) hed 族陨石，包括古铜钙长无球粒陨石, 钙
长辉长无球粒陨石，奥长古铜无球粒陨石，其中前者是后二类的混合角砾岩。它们可能来自小行星带第四号小行星，即灶神星。
陨石是来自地球以外太阳系其他天体的碎片，绝大多数来自位于火星和木星之间的小行星，少数来自月球(40块）和火星（40块）。全世界已收集到4万多块陨石样品，石陨石（主要成分是硅酸盐)。
