在较高温度中烧成。然而当时的窑炉尚未改进,从而导致汉初青瓷比不上战国青瓷,有的坯体没有烧结,处在釉陶水平上。胎釉含铁量高,瓷器颜色呈酱黄、酱褐和黑褐色,黑褐色瓷器就是东汉发展起来的黑瓷。西汉瓷器成型用陶车手工拉坯,器身和器底分别制作,然后粘接而成。
汉代陶瓷的三大分类
无釉陶：数量多、品种广
这件釉陶壶通高40厘米,腹径35厘米,口径15厘米,壶身造型端庄,腹圆、颈高,比例协调美观,古意盎然,是一件浓郁汉代气息的收藏品。目前,这种规格、造型和品相的釉陶壶市场价约10000元。
汉代的釉陶比较,的是“汉绿釉”,釉陶在整个世界陶瓷史上,也是有名的一个品种。程庸表示：“从陶器进入到瓷器的阶段中,产生了釉陶。陶瓷界经常会说‘汉绿釉’,就是指汉代的釉陶。”
本次出现的釉罐属于汉代制陶业的一项新发明,是浓厚的棕黄色和绿色的釉陶。烧成温度约为摄氏800摄氏度左右,内胎呈砖红色。
新出现一些比较特殊的器形,如五联罐。此类罐主体是一个侈口直颈罐,颈部较长,在肩部四周粘接4个同样的小罐。再如人形灯,高47.8厘米,灯碗成浅盘形,灯座塑成—巨人形象,人的眼、鼻都刻划出来,口部刻成方形孔,胸前抱一硕大老鼠,人的肩、手和腿上均攀爬许多老鼠。背面釉下刻“吉样”二字。东汉瓷器的装饰,主要是一些工艺简单的刻划水波纹、弦纹,香熏上镂刻三角纹,壶类器物的肩部粘贴铺首,五联罐上有的贴塑猴子和爬虫等。
